QBPC Representatives Attend the 2024 Transnational Investment Dialogue

On the morning of September 9, the 2024 Transnational Investment Dialogue was held in Xiamen. The event was co-hosted by the China Association of Enterprises with Foreign Investment (CAEFI) and the People’s Government of Xiamen Municipality, and co-organized by Xiamen Municipal Bureau of Commerce, Xiamen Municipal Bureau of Science and Technology, Xiamen Municipal Bureau of Industry and Information Technology, Fujian Investment Promotion Center and Xiamen Association of Enterprises with Foreign Investment. Executive Vice President of CAEFI Cao Hongying moderated the event. More than 200 participants included officials from the Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM), Fujian Province and Xiamen Municipality, and representatives from multinational corporations.

Chen Deming, former Minister of MOFCOM and former Chairman of CAEFI, and Jiang Erxiong, Vice Governor of Fujian Province delivered speeches. With New Quality Productive Forces and High-Standard Opening-Up as the theme, the keynote speakers included Wang Zhizhang, Professor of China University of Petroleum and Vice President of Beijing Energy and Environment Society, Shi Jinshan, President of GBU Financial Leasing, Mu Yankui, President of Yihai Kerry Arawana Holdings Co., Ltd., Michael Ding (ABB), Chair of the QBPC, Chen Zhidong, General Manager of Dupont China Holding Co.,LTd., China Region and China Regional Research and Development Center as well as Huang Ying, Member of the Party Group and Deputy Director of Xiamen Municipal Bureau of Science and Technology.

Michael spoke about the trends, hotspots and difficulties in IPR protection from QBPC perspective, including malicious trademark squatting, quality of patent applications and malicious lawsuits, IPR co-governance on e-commerce platforms, and trade secrets protection, etc. He also emphasized on the critical role of continuous exchanges and collaboration between right holders and law enforcement and judicial departments, as well as between the domestic and international IP communication, in exploring the implementation of further brand protection and technical innovation.

Xu Jun, Managing Director of GE Healthcare (China), moderated the panel session at the forum, during which the heads of multinational corporations such as Walmart, Merck, Budweiser, Cargill, etc. and the Chair of the Finance and Investment Committee of CAEFI exchanged views on the theme.

Finally, Tang Wenhong, Assistant Minister of MOFCOM, delivered closing remarks.
