On the afternoon of October 24, QBPC held an exchange meeting in Chengdu with the Administration for Market Regulation of Sichuan Province (Sichuan AMR) on the IPR protection policies of foreign-invested companies. Hui ZHAO, Deputy Secretary of the Party Group and Deputy Director General of the Sichuan AMR, hosted the event. QBPC Chair Michael DING delivered a speech. The event was attended by officials from Sichuan AMR’s relevant departments, prefecture-level law enforcement and inspection bureaus, and 10 representatives from QBPC member companies.
Director Xiaojun LIU first outlined the background, development, and main contents of Sichuan Province’s Regulation on the Promotion and Protection of Intellectual Property. The regulation created specific provisions on IP promotion and utilization, administrative and judicial protection, social co-governance, and management and services, including strengthening the forward-looking layout of high-value IP, strengthening IP protection in specific fields, exploring the establishment of registration system for IP in data, and refining the joint law enforcement mechanisms for administrative adjudication over patent infringement disputes, among other things. It is a legal guarantee for boosting the province’s innovation vitality, developing the new productive forces, and advancing the construction of a strong IP province.
Next, representatives from QBPC member companies introduced their companies and displaying genuine goods and counterfeits, as well as engaging in in-depth discussions with officials about difficult problems in their cases, hot issues in IP protection, and the sharing of case clues.
Afterwards, Michael thanked the invitation from the Administration for Market Regulation of Sichuan Province. He stated that this event helped QBPC member companies to better understand the latest thoughts and practices in IPR protection in Sichuan. Meanwhile it was also a great occasion to discuss the opportunities and challenges of IP protection. He expected that both sides would further strengthen communication and collaboration to protect quality brands and foster technological innovation.
Finally, Secretary Hui ZHAO introduced the Sichuan AMR’s work to support foreign-invested companies in legally protecting their rights, and the IP cases in 2023 and the first half of 2024. He stated that the good communication and interaction with QBPC as along with the active participation and assistance from foreign-invested companies provided robust support for the smooth handling of cases. He asked the right holders for more support in case clue sharing, and professional study and research. He looked forward to working with the right holders to create a law-based, fair, and transparent business environment.
