On March 30, 2023, QBPC Wireless & Integrated Circuit IWG held the first IWG meeting in 2023 in Guangzhou. The meeting was chaired by Amanda Wu, IWG coordinator. Mr. Xu from GACC Risk Control Bureau (Qingdao Customs) was invited to the meeting. Frank Yu from Cisco, Iris Zhang and Lara Qiu from HPE, Aisling Wang and Kelvin Liu from Qualcomm, Nico Wu from Apple attended this meeting.
The participants first discussed the status of IP protection of China Customs. With the development of cross-border e-commerce, there had been more and more small postal parcels being exported through logistics channels. Unlike traditional freight cargos, it was very difficult to investigate and surveil the small postal parcels. It’s critical to join hands with the customs authorities to improve the inspection rate. Mr. Xu from GACC Risk Control Bureau (Qingdao Customs) introduced how the customs conduted risk control analysis and inspection. He also advised the participant on how to feedback useful intelligence to the customs about potential counterfeit/infringing shipments.
The participants also discussed the disposal of counterfeit goods seized in IP enforcement in an environment-friendly way. The IWG expected to work with law enforcement agencies to dispose/destroy counterfeit goods in an appropriate, environmentally-safe manner, in line with the applicable environmental and public health laws and regulations. All participants brainstormed and shared their views and experience.
