On September 12, a group of representatives from 16 QBPC member companies called on the Food, Drug, and Environment Crime Investigation Department of the Public Security Bureau of Sichuan Province (Sichuan FDECID). The two sides exchanged views and discussed hot and difficult issues in criminal IP protection, as well as reaching a consensus to continuously enhance communication and collaboration. Chief Captain Ronghong ZHANG, IP Crime Investigation Detachment Chief Changdu LIU, Law Enforcement Guidance Detachment Deputy Chief Captain Chengyi ZHOU, and Intelligence Technology Detachment Sergeant Grade I Xin BAO received the QBPC delegation warmly.
First, ZHANG introduced the status of Sichuan FDECID criminal IP protection and the innovative case-handling mode. He expressed his hope to enhance communication with the QBPC members to better assist right holders in resolving criminal IP protection problems and further optimizing the business environment. Then, LIU sorted out new trends, common concerns, and challenges of IP criminal crimes through illustrating relevant data and examples of cases handled by the Department in recent years. In order to cope with the expanding scope of criminal IP cases, he hoped to hear the demands and suggestions of QBPC members and establish a regular cooperation mechanism to improve the case investigation efficiency and strengthen criminal IP protection.
Then, Michael briefly introduced the organizational structure and four major tasks of QBPC, especially the setup of professional committees and industry working groups as well as their respective focuses. In addition, he shared the QBPC’s signature activities for criminal protection, such as the annual Top Ten Cases Selection and Announcement, the Criminal IP Protection Forum, and the Cross Border IP Protection Forum. He expected to leverage the opportunity to learn of the Sichuan FDECID’s demands and suggestions for the right holders’ assistance in case investigation and promote communication and in-depth collaboration between the two sides.
In the interactive session, LIU and other Sichuan FDECID officials discussed with QBPC members their concerns about the combating counterfeiting and refurbished products, how the enterprises should cooperate in the whole chain of crackdowns, cross-regional IP protection, and approaches to combat counterfeiting and defend the rights, and so on. LIU also expected QBPC members to actively share case clues to promptly assist right holders in protecting their IP through data research and judgment.
In the end, Michael said that the QBPC would continue to cooperate with the Sichuan FDECID to strengthen the criminal protection of intellectual property, and forming a regular and industry-focused cooperation mechanism.
