On March 7, QBPC Internet Committee held the 1st session of the Hotline Series, a new quarterly project launched in 2023. Members of the Internet Committee showed up to share experience and discuss problems in making complaints about online infringement, changes of complaint rules, the complaint and feedback process set by the platforms as well as members’ focuses.
In order to support members who were new to online brand protection, this session was to introduce main online complaint categories, processes, and general information of the governance of major platforms. Charlotte Qu (Siemens), Vice Chair of the Internet Committee, moderated the meeting and shared her experience in dealing with online infringements, including main online infringement scenerios, complaint categories and suggestions, platforms that shall be covered for monitoring, characteristics of each platform and their cooperation projects with right holders; Annick Wang (TWE), Chair of the Internet Committee, explained the importance of online monitoring, the selection of monitoring platforms and the evolvement of online platform business models; Jerry Yang (Alliance Pharma), Vice Chair of the Internet Committee, shared his insights of IPR protection work, such as responding timely to the business teams’ increasing concern over online infringement problems and providing effective solutions, laying a solid case foundation through combining online and offline measures to gain the attention and support of the management, and solving common issues through effective communication with the platforms; CHEN Yang (Unilever), Vice Chair of the Internet Committee, addressed the importance of communicating with business teams, suggested on forming strategies according to business needs, and giving priority to key products or brands protection; Esther Dong (Giorgio Armani), Vice Chair of the Internet Committee, shared one of the problems she encountered in the process of online IPR protection, and reminded members that if a project or case involved multiple brands with different goals, they should strengthen internal and external communication to manage the expectation on the development and result of the case.
The event attracted representatives from 31 QBPC member companies, who actively participated in the discussion and raised problems/concerns they encountered in daily work, for instance the revision of the E-Commerce Law, the cooperation of the platforms, online patent protection, and data fluctuations of active prevention control. Accordingly, the Internet Committee gave timely feedback and would continue to follow up with some of the issues after the meeting.
